Congratulations are in order for a telecommunication company based in Mozambique – for winning the golden globe of the fastest growing company of the year in Africa and the middle east at this years’ International Business Awards.
Motivel, a subsidiary of Viettel Group in Mozambique was presented with the gold winner of ‘fastest growing of the year in Middle East and Africa’ award.
Within only one fiscal year, Movitel has managed to double its coverage from 35% to a phenomenal 85%, including 600 000 people in at least 5 rural districts in the country, allowing Movitel to boast of 5 million users; easily becoming the leading pack of the telecommunication world in Mozambique.
When working in the mobile world, one area that shows no lie is within the numbers; and although Movitel was only launched in 2012, it took only 6 months to make a total revenue of 69.7 million dollars (US). In 2013, it significantly rose to 154.5 million dollars, of while 102.3 million was recorded in the second half of the year.
How did they do it? Movitel simply adopted a strategy as a caring and innovative network for every Mozambican, targeting the youth and urban dwellers. After targets were set and met, the company focused on winning prestigious awards such as these, to ensure that nothing but its work could speak for the company.
However, this is not the first time the company was graced with such awards, in the year 2012 and 2013, Movitel won the Rural Telecom Award of the AfricaCom Awards, and the Competitive Strategy Leadership award by the American Research and Consulting firm Frost and Sullivan respectively.
Hopefully, other competitors in the telecommunication field will find a way to beat these pioneers off their highly coveted number one spot.
