NollywoodWeek Paris film festival opens submissions

NollywoodWeek Paris film festival opens submissions
22nd Jan 2016 by mmabatho

NollywoodWeek has created even more opportunity for Nigerian Filmmakers within the second most valuable film industry in the world.

The Nollywoodweek Paris Film Festival, powered by Okada Media is calling for submissions on all Nigerian film makers of short or feature films. Held in Cinema l’Arlequin in France’s romantic capital, Paris.  On its fourth year running, the Nollywoodweek organisers have calls for Nigerian film makers of short stories, films and animations to be part of the biggest Nollywood event in Europe.

Shying away from the stereotype, cofounders of NollywoodWeek Serge Noukoue and Nadira Shakur are enforcing a strict film selection process which only permits film makers to submit work of cinema-ready, top quality film. With an aim to make the quality and NollyWoodWeek synonymous without any hues of prejudice.

It is empowering to challenge the notion that Nollywood is a general low quality based industry, although it has proven to be a multi-billion-dollar industry. While only focusing on the straight-to-DVD films, a new branch of high quality cinematic films have graced the industry, for example Half a Yellow Sun, inspired by Chimamanda Ngozi-Adichie’s book which was filmed on a 8 million dollar budget, starring house hold names such as Thandie Newton and John Boyega. In 2014, Nollywood grossed to $3 billion, making it the largest film industry on the continent, bigger than Hollywood by volume and the second largest film industry.

Submissions are to be filled in by February 12 this year with the official selection published in March. NollyWoodWeek Paris film Festival is set to run between 2nd to 5th of June 2016. If you’re keen, make your submission here
