• 1971, 7 December: Libya nationalizes British Petroleum Company BP
• 1993, 7 December: Felix Houphouet-Boigny, Ivory Coast President dies at the age of 88.
• 1993, 8 December: Winnie Madikizela Mandela becomes the president of the ANC’s Womens League in South Africa.
• 1909, 9 December: Kwame Nkrumah, father of pan-Africanism and president of Ghana is born.
• 1963, 10 December: Zanzibar obtains independence from the British
• 1980, 11 December: Dr Apollo Obote returns to power in Uganda.
• 1964, 12 December: Kenya obtains independence from British colonial rule, it is then declared a republic with Jomo Kenyatta becoming a prime minister.
